I went for a walk to a place I thought would be a waterfront park, only to realize that's not what it was. I did, however, happen upon a skate park. On my way home I passed a number of parking garages that each beeped with a similar sound. Each alarm played its own version of the same song, until I found one that I randomly decided was "mine." I plopped a field recording from the skate park on top of the sound of the garage alarm, then transposed and tweaked the sounds until a counterpoint emerged. The next day, it rained. Whilst nestled in my studio, I tilted my chair back and listened to the downpour as I continued working on this project. Wanting to incorporate the sound of the rain and the metal catwalk it pelted, I attached a pair of contact microphones to the catwalk and let the rain do the rest of the work. I did not get electrocuted.
